The 113-seat theatre was established in 1938 on its present site which was converted from an old Victorian bakery.BLT present a full-length play every month run over eight nights starting on a Friday. Their vision is to present outstanding theatre for everyone – from the best of contemporary dramas, comedies, thrillers, farces, musical productions as well as the classics.
BLT have embarked on a programme to deepen the relationships with selected organisations in the community, to encourage people to see how inclusive and life changing the theatre experience can be…and not just through watching or taking part in the shows themselves. Other than acting, there are dozens of things that happen in the production process - from auditions at the beginning to striking the set at the end of a run. Each of these activities provides an opportunity for people in the community to get involved and learn new skills, or indeed share their own talents – really important things too, like sound, lighting, costumes, set building, stage management and many more.
Initially, BLT have agreed with charities CASPA Bromley, Magpie Dance, JusB and Bishop Justus School to work together in partnership.
This bijou theatre has undergone many improvements over the past decade in order to create a more comfortable and enjoyable venue for everyone and a major re-development programme received planning approval from Bromley Council in July.
This work will be phased over several years to ensure BLT don’t overstretch themselves financially or disrupt too many of the activities.
This is hugely important for BLT and means they can stay in North Street for many years to come for the enjoyment of current and future generations of people who love the theatre.
