My wordy bit...
Why am I doing this? The usual story. I've flirted with the idea of a half-marathon before but have never bothered, for whatever reason, to get my act together and do one. Sure I've done charity cycling events such as the London to Brighton, but they tell me that running is quite different to cycling, so this will be a new experience. Then when I discovered that a bunch of my colleagues at Tektronix were running in what is my local half-marathon it just felt like the right thing to do.
Why did I choose CLIC Sargent? Whether or not you have children of your own, can you imagine how it must feel to hear that your child has cancer? For me there can be no greater gift than a happy and healthy childhood. But some kids face the prospect of never doing this. So I simply want to do my bit to help other's who are less fortunate than I was.
I have to admit that there's a part of me that thinks "aren't you a bit old to go running 13 or so miles?" and finds the prospect a bit daunting, but others do it all the time so in theory I should be ok :-) And if I'm not ok, a) I live on the route of the marathon so I can always nip home for a cuppa and a rest, then rejoin, and b) Royal Berkshire Hospital is on the route too, and I'm sure they're a good bunch and will fix me!
Wish me luck and support a good cause please. I hope to keep you updated frequently.
Cheers,
Pete
