Story
Well anyone reading this, has at least come this far, and hopefully you are now about to donate to our challenge and help support the great work Macmillan nurses do. Up until last year, the word cancer was a nasty, dirty word, that if i heard it, i would twist my face up and say "oh i'm sorry" or "oh that's terrible", but it hadn't indirectly affected me or my immediate family. That was until last year when my Mam was diagnosed with breast cancer. I suppose like most families, your Mam is the rock of the family, and the one that keeps everyone in order, well that's definately the case in our family, and the thought that cancer had the bloody nerve to attack my Mams body, made me and the rest of my family angry and very. very upset. The strongest person out of everyone was my Mam, even though i knew deep down she was very scared. This is when macmillan nurses came into our lives. everytime my Mam visited hospital, she came home full of praise for the nurses and what i thought was a little bit more self belief and determination. The macmillan nurses offered advice, support, not just for Mam, but for my Dad as well. who i think was suffering in silence. Following an operation and months of Chemotherapy, and Radium, my Mam is on the mend and beginning to enjoy life again. If i could i would love to visit every nurse who helped her and give them a hug and say thankyou. That's not possible, so in order to say thankyou and highlight the great work Macmillan do, me and my good mate Andrew jackson, are going to attempt...no not attempt...COMPLETE!! the UK Three Peaks Challenge. On Sunday the 30th September 2012, we will set off at 4am, and start climbing Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Scotland, upon completion we will drive to the Lake District and climb Skafell Pike, the highest peak in England, upon completion, we will drive to Wales and climb Snowdon, Wales' highest peak. We will finish all of this by 4am, the following day, thus completing our challenge in 24hours!!!!! It will be hard for us both, but nothing compared to the struggle cancer sufferers and their families battle against day after day. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE donate something, anything to our cause. If all of ours mates donated the price of a pint, we'd be able to raise a fortune to help this amazing charity. Thankyou for looking at our page, and thankyou for helping. Peter & AJ.
