Penelope Pitstop's Perils are a group of 5 girls who are raising awareness and funds for The Hepatitis C Trust. They are Kate Young, Kelly Love, Kim Booth, Jade Gandey and Jennifer Anderson Mann.
This message is written by Jade Gandey one of the "Penelope Pitstops Perils" Team:
"Last year my mum was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. It has been a rollercoaster. It is an illness that many people associate with intravenous drug taking and therefor the illness carries a lot of unfair stigma. The disease can be contracted many ways from sharing toothbrushes to getting tattoo's. Blood in the UK was not screened before 1991 so many people who had blood transfusions have Hep C and don't know. There is no vaccination against Hepatitis C.
The Treatment is very similar to Chemotherapy and for some people it is completely debilitating . My mums treatment left her so exhausted, she could not face getting up to go the loo in the night or get dressed in the morning. These tiny actions we take for granted. Her body was covered in angry rashes, she lost weight, hair and for a while, her smile.
I am so lucky to have such amazing friends Kate Young, Kelly Love. Kim Booth and Jennifer Anderson Mann all who are prepared to take time from their busy life's to help raise awareness and essential funds."
We are about to embark on 4 months of fund raising which will culminate in us being part of a 1000 mile wacky races style mission from London To Ibiza. Completing tasks and challenges on the way.
All we ask from you is to PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A DONATION - no matter how small.
Thanks
