Story

The Patrouille des Glacier is a ski mountaineering race that starts in Arolla and finishes in Verbier some 26km and 2000m of vertical climbing later.  The race consists of teams of three and as well as needing to complete the race we also have to hit a series of check points within a specified time limit.  Taking into account the vertical ascent, the actual distance equates to 52km and we're hoping to cover this in something around 7 hours.  The race finishes with a run, in ski boots and carrying skis, down the main street in Verbier to finish by the Sports Centre.

Walking With The Wounded aims to help injured service men and women who have, through injury, been forced to leave the armed forces and retrain them for life in the civilian world.  By providing training and inspiration to injured soldiers, their aim is to show that there is a world beyond injury and that the skills and disciplines that made them effective soldiers can, with the right support and infrastructure, support them in the civilian world.  The concept is simple - a job equals security.

Whilst WWTW has received a lot of publicity with both a trek to the North Pole and their upcoming Everest campaign, the rest of what they do needs to be publicised and supported.  Whilst they have a team of men going up Everest, there are soldiers who have suffered physical and cognitive injuries sustained in war that make adapting to their new day to day life as big a physical and mental challenge as climbing Everest.  Simple goals like learning to walk again or to drive a car become as daunting and demanding as summiting the world's tallest mountain.  It is for the hundreds of men and woman whose lives have been irreversibly altered that WWTW exists.  To provide them with the necessary support and training to allow them to support themselves and live useful and purposeful lives once more.
