Story
We did it.... 40 km from The Docklands to Ham House in our Dragon Boat... in 3 Hours and 10 minutes. We were the only amateur dragon boat crew to finish! Dressed in florescent pink tops and rainbow couloured wigs, looking rather more suited for Gay Pride not a day out on The River Thames. We paddled profusely from start to finish. Our helmsman said "Remember this is a marathon, not a sprint". But we just went for it. We overtook boats or varying shapes and sizes. We watched fellow dragon boats sinking around us. We sang, laughed, counted, ate the odd banana and paddled.
Thank you to all our friends who have been so generous with donations. We are totally overwhelmed and can't believe we have smashed our target... amazing. We love you for your support.

The back story....
16 West London Girls have teamed up to row in a Dragon Boat at The Great River Race on Saturday15th September. 40km / 24 miles of repetitive 1-2-1-2-1-2 oar manoeuvres will hopefully take us from The Docklands to Ham House.
In the spirit of the Olympics and The Paralympics we have chosen to raise money for Elizabeth's Legacy of Hope. A small charity that supports children who have become vulnerable amputees due to war, disease or disaster across the world. The charity provides low-cost prosthetics, vital operations, educational, social and psychological assistance and care.
A Charity so close to home for some. Pollyanna Hope lost her leg in a tragic accident when she was just two years old. She is now 7 and has not only met Oscar Pistorius but has also run 5km in Sierra Leon without stopping for the charity. Pollyanna and her family are an inspiration to so many. They have turned a tragedy into a something positive by giving hope to so many vulnerable amputees across the world. So far 91 children have been fitted with prosthetics.
