Story
The Newborn Appeal
My personal reason for supporting this particular appeal is due to my beautiful nephew Jacob. As most of you know my sister Sharon gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy called Jacob Ray on Sunday 27th March 2011 - weighing just 3 pounds and 13 ounces. Whilst it was wonderful to have Jacob join us - he did so very early at 31 weeks (just 7 months into my sisters pregnancy).
Special babies really do need special care. I honestly cannot praise the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of The Liverpool Women's Hospital for their attention to Jacob and his on-going development and care. Week in week out as Jacob improves my sister and our family take comfort and hope that he was well looked after in the right place by the right people.
As such I have decided (some say foolishly :-) to sign up and indeed complete the Liverpool Marathon on Sunday 9th October 2011 in order that I can raise funds for The Newborn Appeal.
The Newborn Appeal was launched in April 1992 with the following aims:-
1) To purchase specialised equipment
2) To support research to improve the quality of care in the Neonatal Intensive Care units and
3) To maintain a unique research programme which places the care of the newborn on Merseyside at the forefront and add to this area's already excellent reputation for medical science.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Liverpool Women's Hospital is a Referral Unit caring for around 1000 babies a year, the majority of babies care for are from the Mersey region, many babies are admitted from a wide geographical area including North Wales.
Just over two million and three hundred and six thousand pounds has been raised for the benefit of The Newborn Appeal up to now - which is fantastic...I would be so pleased if you could help me to contribute to such a worthwhile cause. I know times are tough and there are so many charities appealing everyday for support, however, I really would be over the moon if you would contribute however much you are able to in order that I can give other tiny and delicate babies the best possible care and support available to them.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and taking the time and effort to contribute - it truly is appreciated.
