Story
Two years ago, I set up I was scheduled to swim The North Channel, from Ireland to Scotland. Due to weather and the difficulties of coordinating a team, the attempt never took place. Many people sponsored me to swim and when I offered to reimburse them, not a single person asked for their money back. I am blessed to know such generous people.
To make up for my omission I will be swimming the 22 mile length of Loch Ness on August 8th in the same rules applied to the North Channel. Once again it's a relay team (this time only 5 people) and we swim in strict rotation, with no one allowed to miss their turn. The water temperature will be as low as 14 degrees and we are attempting this non wet-suited, which could become quite some ordeal.
Should you have missed that once in a lifetime opportunity to sponsor me two years ago, be happy, because here's a second chance. You would be more than kind should you choose to do so, as I know that I am no stranger to asking for your support.
I want to do this to raise some money for Aspire to help people who have sustained a spinal cord injury. Aspire provides practical support to people who have been paralysed by spinal cord injuries, for which there is no cure. A spinal injury can happen to anyone at any time. This was brought home to me once again, when five weeks ago our very own Neville Smith, spin instructor at Aspire and all round good guy, was kicked off his bike and sustained a high level injury. Neville is here in Stanmore and currently is left with limited movement in his left arm. It is my wish that I never know anyone who needs our services, but what we do is so important.
