SWIM DAY UPDATE:
Just wanted to say a big Thank You again for helping me reach my £200 target for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
After completing my training regime last week (ok there was no training regime), I went to bed last night having abstained (ok - having had a large bbq & a good number of beers), in great anticipation of what would happen this morning.
I headed off to Staines Leisure Centre just after 7am this morning (wanted to be there nice & early so that there weren't lots of people pointing at me as I ambled pool side).
Having honestly not swum in a straight line pretty much for over 20 years, I was not quite sure whether this would be a walk in the park, or a really tough challenge.
I was pretty amazed at the result - it seems that those early years of training at primary school (Mum was the swimming teaching - thanks, Mum) really did pay off as I glided through the water at great speed (ok - splashed along with an unattractive version somewhere between doggy paddle & breast stroke!).
Either way, 35 mins later, and I had succeeded. I even did 2 lengths of front crawl at the end but there was no way I'd have done 40 lengths of that.
So - have found the least offensive picture given for many of you I am sending this before breakfast time. Not sure you wanted to sit through a 35 minute video so hope this is proof enough that I at least was at the swimming pool.
Really appreciate your kind donation and who knows, maybe I could carry on a couple of times a week and try and maintain a level of fitness!
I've recently joined British Gas and they are doing some great work with Great Ormond Street Hospital. I've signed up to swim a kilometer and whilst that doesn't seem vey far, I don't swim much and am very out of shape!
If I suceed in this challenge, I'm hoping to be spurred on to more so please show me some encouragement by sponsoring me for this challenge.
