Story

As well as my Land's End to John O' Groats motorbike challenge whilst on the move I am hosting an online charity auction for a signed England Rugby Squad, authenticated, mounted and framed shirt.

We all use mobile phones.  Some for business and nearly all of us use for pleasure.  Many have more than one.  Not only for calls but also for the internet and sending and receiving emails.  But what would happen if you had to rely on it and live your life for both work and pleasure just on that little electronic gadget. ......

That got me thinking.   Could I take 5 days out of the office and run my business quite literally on the road.  Not just using my mobile device to make and receive calls or to send the odd email but quite literally use it for everything, calls, emails, web, diary planning, route planning, tracking, navigation, photo diary, video blog and even updating twitter and facebook?

With that challenge firmly set I needed a road to hit and what better journey than from one end of our Country to the other.  On 24th May 2010 for 5 days I will be travelling on a 1000cc Triumph Tiger from Lands End to John O Groats, some 1000 miles.

So let's recap....One man -  a 40 year old Managing Director not overly I.T. literate, uses my BlackBerry for quite a lot of stuff but not as much as I'm going to have to use it over those 5 days.  Have taken a couple of interesting pics on it whilst drunk at a Will I Am concert but have never used it for video, let alone recorded a blog and updated Twitter and Facebook.

One bike - a 1000cc of roaring Triumph Tiger will be nestled neatly between my legs (please god let it stay there and never flat on it's side with me in a ditch somewhere).  The bike is more than up for the miles, but even that is no small ask, as its a couple of hundred miles every day and I am not what you would call a hardened biker, I do fair weather biking and very short comuting - so a bit of a challenge here for both of us.

One  BlackBerry - a BlackBerry Bold 9700  will be used it for absolutely everything.  It will be my phone, email, diary, navigation, tracker and will be my media device for updating Facebook and Twitter as well as creating a photo and video diary blog for the route.

I would be so grateful if everyone who reads this donates so that I can hopefully exceed my target for such a fantastic charity.

5.4 million children across the world are currently trapped in orphanages – even though 80% of them have family they could live with if they had the right support. Orphanages harm children, depriving them of love and exposing them to abuse. Your support helps us get children to back to family.
