Raid Corsica!
Where to begin explaining my madness? I've never had a sporting interest but thanks to a suggestion from the one and only Mark Sprintall, I became a MAMIL (middle aged man in lycra) last year having just clocked 40.
Mark and I will be pedaling 1000km (with 14.6km of ascent) in just 6 days. For us Brits, that’s about 104 miles on average per day. I've been training best I can and can now comfortably do about 60 miles in a day but that's around Bucks, which is a lot flatter than Corsica!
We will be covering all of our own costs and will be doing this to raise money for Special Effect (www.specialeffect.org.uk), which develops and implements technology to allow disabled people to enjoy the benefits of computer games. Imagine not being able to move anything but your eyes and the sense of liberation it would give you to be able to play games and communicate with just the use of your eyes. Here is a 1 minute link of the incredible Charlotte. Her case study is a great one as it cost just £50 to make an adapted wii so that she could play with her friends and family. We have permission from her fantastic family for people who fundraise for the charity to use this as an example of what funds raised will help achieve http://bit.ly/IQNUBn.
