Story
Paul would like to raise awareness of Prostate cancer and contribute to its research. As he has personally lost not only his father but his grandfather to the disease
"I decided I wanted to get fitter and do something to remember my father by. Therefore I started cycling again and spinning at the gym which is where I met Wattie. We started training together regularly. Not only at the gym but on longer routes on the roads. We also had lessons with Skinny Tyres who helped us with hill climbing and group riding."
We have recently done The Cross Boarder Sportive together and are planning to do The Caledonian Etape prior to leaving.
Wattie is completing this with Paul, having trained with Paul for a number of months it only took a little push from Sue to encourage him to join Paul, Tim and Andrew on the trip - "I am doing this Cycle with Paul to support him on this great cause. I have lost friends and family through cancer so its good to try and help others. This is also in my bucket list and what a time to do it".
In summary we are looking to raise £5000 in memory of Brian Rice who died 5 years ago of Prostate cancer.
In order to get you involved from the start Paul and Wattie will update you regularly through their Facebook pages.
In May when I commence the challenge I intent to post a daily video diary of the planned route, the highlights and routes on view, also the odd picture of me grimacing climbing a hill in order to encourage you to donate.
For the keen cyclists among you I will also be posting my Garmin stats which will show the mileage covered, the average speed and also the maximum climb/speed and a profile of the route.
