Story
This year, on Saturday 21st August, as a massive challenge to myself (as I always said "Never", to the idea of doing a Skydive), and to celebrate my Birthday (the next day 22nd Aug), I will be jumping, or thrown out of a perfectly good Aircraft at 10,000 feet above St.Agnes/Perranporth.
UPDATE: Skydive took place on Tuesday 24th August (delayed by weather).
As many of you know, who know me, I love flying abroad for holidays and trips away, but have never wished to be throw, or jump, out of a perfectly good aeroplane, in mid flight.
So, why am I doing it now, what has made me really challenge myself and my fears?
I have been very fortunate to have cared for and supported so many adults and children in my vocational career, and I have seen the pain and suffering many have had to endure, so I felt it would be good for me to undertake a voluntary role as crew on a boat that brings pleasure to people who have suffered with severe, life changing illnesses, leading to disabilities and or life limiting conditions, so they can put all the bad stuff to the back of their minds for a period of time. As I have had many years and skilled experience on and around the water, plus a little bit of medical knowledge (as an NHS Paramedic, in Cornwall), I thought 'Wetwheels' would be a good place to put it all to further, positive, good use.
One specific situation in my career Ied me to experience what a terrible mentally and physically torturous time it can be for a family, when they have child who has a life limiting illness. A little lady called Sophia was disabled from birth and fought strongly over 4 1/2 years, with multiple medical issues and the support of her twin sister, Olivia, and a very loving family. I was privileged to have know her, for her short life, and could see the tremendous happiness that every fun day, adventure and experience gave her, so.............
I have decided that I would like to enable at least 20 Children, with Life Limiting or Terminal Illnesses to have a chance to get afloat, on our superb, fast, safe and stable 'Wetwheels South West' vessel, based in Falmouth, and have an experience at sea that will give them some joy and happiness in their young lives, along with some memories for them and their families to treasure. They could even have a go at fishing!
What's more, I will personally be paying the Training, Equipment Hire and Flight Fees for myself, so EVERY penny raised with go directly to my fundraising effort.
Each child can have a place on the boat for just £35, so if I can raise £700, that will enable 20 lucky children to come aboard and put their troubles and suffering to the back of their minds, as they have an adventure at sea. They might even see Dolphins, Seals, Crabs, Lobsters, Birds and maybe even a Shark or a Whale. We have seen all of these on our trips and adventures.
If I am fortunate enough to exceed my target, it will mean I can take more out for an adventure
HELP ME to help some make some children smile, who REALLY need it..
Just £1, or even a 'Share' of my appeal, will help me to reach my target!
Many thanks and Love to you all.
