Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
If you've got this far then you probably want to know what this is all about.
20 years ago, my mom died from breast cancer. I always promised myself I'd do something in her memory in the way of fundraising. Whatever I did, it would have to be the kind of challenge where I didn't know for certain whether I could pull it off.
It's been a long time coming but now I've found it, I think the MDS gives me a great opportunity to fulfil that promise.
The Marathon des Sables is a challenge, a real challenge. A 150 mile, six day running race across the Sahara Desert carrying your own food, supplies and emergency survival kit. Water is provided but strictly rationed.
The MDS is an annual event and I'll be taking part in the April 2012 race.
You may have seen the programme on TV earlier this year which featured Olympic rower, James Cracknell taking part in the 2011 race. It was tough but he became the highest placed Britain ever.
Breakthrough Breast Cancer is a really good cause trying to tackle a really horrible disease. Almost everybody knows somebody who has been affected by it.
All my entry costs for the event, including flights and accomaodation have been paid for by my employer, Grove Metal Sections Ltd, so anything that you give here will go straight to Breakthrough Breast Cancer (less Justgiving's small admin fee) and if you are a basic rate tax payer, your donation is upped by a further 25% courtesy the government!
Please dig deep, give generously and remember - I don't even like running!
Thank you.
