Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I decided this year to set myself a number of physical challenges as a way to keep fit during lockdown and more importantly in memory of my wife Fiona who died last July.
I started the year with a pledge to myself that I would finally complete the couch to 5k journey that I had started in the summer of 2020. I managed my first 5k on 31 January 2021, on the same day and inspired by the superhuman efforts of Eddie Izzard who completed an ultra marathon after running a marathon every day in January. I am planning to take part in a 5k park run at some point this year.
In June, my daughter Becky and I will walking the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness with some close family friends Georgie & Lachlan Macdonald.
In September, I will be taking part in Swimathon 2021 where I hope to swim 1.5k and will be raising money separately for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK (if you would like to donate to these causes please visit my separate JustGiving page here:

These three events have been contributing towards an overarching challenge - a virtual trek from Land’s End to John o’Groats during 2021. I joined a team of 4 others in this pursuit; my son James, Fiona’s two sisters Toni and Josie (whose idea it was) and her husband Keith.
We will each endeavour to carry out our own personal set of physical activities which aggregate to the 1,351.9 km route during the course of 2021. Our total combined distance if achieved would take us from London to Beijing which I think sounds more impressive!!
I will provide regular updates on my personal progress and how we are doing as a team.
