I was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer in June 2017. This was a major shock as there was no real warning, just a few stomach pains in the 6 weeks or so leading up to an emergency operation at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff. I woke up to find I almost certainly had bowel cancer (subsequently confirmed) and as a proud owner of a brand new stoma!

I’m being treated at the excellent Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff. My oncologist has told me that with chemo, my life expectancy is around 2.5 to 3.5 years, but my aim is to beat that and be one of the 10% or so of stage 4 bowel cancer patients who survive 5 years or more.
