Story
Back in February 2016 I developed a rare autoimmune condition called PAN, PolyArteritis Nodosa. It has taken me many years to recover from this illness little by little.. No one knows the cause of PAN, but NHS treatment at Southampton General and Lymington Hospitals and the GP support at Brockenhurst surgery, plus countless pills from Brockenhurst pharmacy has helped save my life. I used be a keen marathon runner and ran the first 13 Edinburgh marathons between 2003 and 2015. Since then I have been unable to run marathons, but was going to run the Edinburgh Marathon Relay with the help of my cousin Berni MacDonald, her husband Gus MacDonald, my niece’s boyfriend Andrew Parkinson and my cousin Rory White. Instead I will run the distance in lockdown alone over a period of six days finishing on the date that the race was originally due to run. The aim is to raise funds for Vasculitis UK who help and support people with vasculitis and improve their outcomes for vasculitis
Peter PAN learned to fly, so Michael will be running his last day in Peter PAN fancy dress! Coincidentally J.M Barrie who wrote about Peter Pan was Scottish and went to the University of Edinburgh.
