Story
Dear kind donators,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
It was a dream of mine to travel to Nepal, and last year I ended up climbing to Everest Base Camp instead. This fuelled the desire to challenge myself once more but it had to be for a cause. I am climbing Kilimanjaro to raise money for UNICEF and will be trekking with three of my friends two of whom I trekked with last year. This is in part for the irrevocable impression of the children I encountered on my journey through Nepal, and a reminder of how children like adults are discriminated all over the world for various reasons. However, poverty denies them the right to have a decent life which has become a global tragedy. In the UK alone we have 4 million children living in poverty and we are the 5th richest country in the world! UNICEF UK is working closely with the government to end child poverty in the UK by 2020.
As a huge admirer of Audrey Hepburn who was the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador from 1988 - 1993, I have been very fortunate to have been given permission by the photographer who accompanied her on her missions, to use his photo of AH as an inspiration of her strength and humanitarianism towards the plight of children around the world.
Children are our future ambassadors and it is imperative we protect them and give them a chance to fulfill their human potential and allow them to have a voice.
This trip is self funded and any sponsorship raised will go directly to UNICEF.
