100km for the Critters! London 2 Brighton Challenge, 12 May 2012

Story

I'm walking 100km from London to Brighton in May. (I know, right?!)
When it came to choosing a charity to support I had a really hard time whittling it down to one, but in the end I decided to help those who cannot help themselves. Animals give everything to us and in some unfortunate cases people abuse this trust. The RSPCA takes on the responsibilty of removing all animals out of harmful, or unsuitable situations, and treats them with the respect and love these creatures deserve.
Along with helping domestic animals in need, 'the RSPCA also works to improve the lives of millions of farm, laboratory and wild animals.' 3.72 million scientific procedures were carried out using animals in research establishments in the UK in 2010.

*If you've already given me money in person don't worry! I will be taking those donations along to the charity so there's no need to donate again (unless you want to...)

About the charity

Each year the Central London Branch of the RSPCA helps around 1,500 cats, dogs, rabbits and other animals. One of our main activities is running a cat neutering scheme, which helps people who cannot afford vets' fees, to have their animals neutered. This service is available in the Greater London area, with the support of other RSPCA branches and other charities. We also do as much as we can to help animals in distress, and find them permanent or temporary homes. We are a separate charity from RSPCA Headquarters with responsibility for raising funds to pay for the work that we do. We constantly apply our funds to help as many animals as possible in the Branch area.
