Story
We did it - in seven hours 90 paddlers completed 7,970 lengths, 199.25km (here to Bath) raising £1,230 (so far)
Winners of the most lengths in an hour were Mal (Beavers) 44, Daniel (Cubs) 100, Maddy (Guides/Scouts) 123, Maziar (Explorers/Senior Section) 216 & Phil (Adults) 167.
A massive thank you to everyone that donated, paddled, counted, made (& ate) cakes & helped make this such a memorable event.
Cancer will affect one in three of us at some stage in our lives, either directly or through a loved one. I was fortunate to be diagnosed in time and to have received superb treatment at the Marsden. Others are not so lucky.
I liken the experience of going through the door marked 'MacMillan Nurse' to have the news broken to Sam & I, to the moment Sirius Black passed through the Door in The Ministry of Magic; only I was lucky enough to be able to step back out.
During my treatment I was grateful to meet Fiona, a MacMillan nurse who supported my family and I through 2012, and who kindly joined us as guest of honour to try kayaking for the first time! But its not just about the fun stuff as Fiona and her colleagues provide wonderful support for Cancer Sufferers day in day out.
This Paddleathon was both my opportunity to say thank you and also yours on behalf of family members who have benefitted from MacMillans care and also in case one day you find yourself going through that door.....
