Paddling to stay a float
Team name: (We Are) The Boat Crew
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are devastated by the news that DEFRA have ordered Chester
Zoo to remain closed indefinitely. The Zoo is now fighting for its future.
Chester Zoo relies heavily on visitor income. It costs
£465,000 just to care for the animals and plants EVERY MONTH. The Zoo closed on the 21st March 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic and now required £1.6million A MONTH to keep it going.
We are a group of current and former Chester Zoo employees who
refuse to give up the fight to prevent extinction. All members of the group have been kayak trained as part of our job roles at the Zoo (operating the Lazy River Boat Trip). The group also consists of several experienced kayakers. We are going to use this skill to help raise money to help SAVE OUR ZOO.
We will be kayaking (K1) a combined total of 46.5 km
(to reflect £465,000 animal care bill a month) in ONE DAY. We will be starting at 9am and will continue until we have hit our target distance. This will be a big challenge! We also potentially have adverse weather to contend with.
Chester Zoo means so much to each of us for different
reasons and we will continue to fight for its future. Your support is greatly appreciated, all donations go directly to Chester Zoo. No donation is too small; every penny goes towards preventing extinction and ensuring the future of Chester Zoo.
Thank you so much for your support during this uncertain
time.

BREAKING NEWS: SAVE OUR ZOO CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
Weve tried to stay positive during this pandemic. Our conservationists have continued to prevent extinction, our virtual days have cheered up the nation, our learning resources have helped thousands of home-schooling families.
We wanted to remain a beacon of hope. We really tried.
But now, as the government has ordered that we may have to stay closed indefinitely, it hurts us to say that this crisis has literally left us fighting for our future.
Thank you to all those who have already donated and fundraised for us. Your commitment has been incredible. But not being able to open, despite being a huge outdoor site with all the necessary safety measures in place, is having a devastating impact on our much-loved zoo.
We REFUSE to cut corners when it comes to the animals.
We REFUSE to give up on our fight to prevent extinction.
And because of that, we've now reached the point where we desperately NEED YOUR HELP.
We need you to SAVE OUR ZOO.
