Story
I have received very worrying news from Uganda regarding COVID-19
All vehicles have been grounded except for our ambulances which shows how important they are to the communities.
The problem this gives us is a financial one; we have had a request from the District Health Offices in Mbale asking if we are able to help with extra funding. They're health funding is already stretched beyond it's limit, and with the challenge of COVID-19 they will simply not be able to cope which will lead to many avoidable deaths.
At present they have estimated that they may need an extra £6000 (fortunately costs in Uganda are very cheap compared to the UK). This money would be used for fuel, maintenance and extra driver salaries. However, I think that the figure of £6000 will rise sharply in the near future as the crisis takes hold.
PONT is a small Welsh charity making a big difference in the region of Mbale in Eastern Uganda. We save lives by training health workers in rural villages. Our fleet of 34 motorbike ambulances get sick people down poor roads to health centres.
If you think you can spare a few pounds in these difficult times then please be assured that you can and will save lives.
Thank you
