Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are a family team of 5 taking part in the Royal British Legion fundraising event Pedal to Ypres 2022.
Our challenge is to cycle 280 km in 3 consecutive days on 23rd to 25th of July to support The Royal British Legion by raising funds for this Charity.
Our youngest team member will have recently turned 16 and as a proud member of the RAF Air Cadets he will be wearing his RBL vest with pride.
This three-day trip remembers the incredible sacrifices made by all those who fought in both World Wars.
We embark on this challenge as 2 generations of a family which has made its own sacrifices to war –
Our great (great) uncle, Bertram Harris of Notts and Derby (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment died in 1918, and is buried in Arras at Faubourg-D´Amiens Cemetery;
Our great grandfather, Henry Joseph Cronin, wounded in service, died aged 31 in 1919 leaving a widow and 3 young children. He is buried in the war cemetery in Walthamstow London.
They were typical of thousands of men whose young lives were cut dramatically short by war.
This cycle journey will start from Dover and passes through key historical regions of France and Belgium. As we visit battlefields, cemeteries and memorials along the route we will be thinking of them and the many other young soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice during World War I and World War II and other more recent conflicts.
We can help ensure that their unique contribution is never forgotten by supporting The Royal British Legion to provide support and services to veterans in need of help today.
We really appreciate all contributions towards meeting our sponsorship target.
