Penny, Deb, Gav, Glyn and Russ are going to walk the 24 mile hike over 3 peaks to raise money for a very worthy cause:
Ravenscliffe@SpringHall is the culmination of a decade of careful thought, planning and consideration in response to an ever growing school population and increased capacity issues at Ravenscliffe High School (RHS). As Calderdale’s only secondary special school, RHS caters for young people with a wide range of learning and physical disabilities. Central Government guidelines indicate that the existing school building is fit to accommodate the learning of a maximum of 69 students; in September 2015 its student population reached a record high of 147, more than double capacity. With future numbers projected to rise further to 160 in September 2016, and under increased pressure from both inside and outside Calderdale for places at the OFSTED rated “Outstanding” School, RHS is swelling at the seams and in desperate need of a long term solution.
That solution is Ravenscliffe@SpringHall; a purpose built, fully accessible Post-16 learning centre and out of hours community centre situated approximately one mile from the current site. Lying adjacent to an existing athletics track, and with no impact on current facilties, the centre will provide exciting and innovative learning opportunities for up to 70 young people aged 16-19, whilst relieving the capacity issues at the main school building and thus affording better provision for younger students.
