Osian and Iola's big hike for Ukraine · 19 June 2022

More than 10 million people have fled their homes to escape conflict in Ukraine. Leaving behind jobs, belongings and loved ones, they need shelter, food and water. Donate now.

Story

Osian (age 8) and Iola (age 6)  really wanted to do something about the war in Ukraine, so they decided they would try and walk 10 miles, which seemed like a great big challenge. We have plotted a route from Kingston, to Lulworth Cove in Dorset to raise some money. It will be a really long way for little legs, and some big hills too! I asked them why they want to help Ukraine:

Osian: "Firstly, other people are helping people in Ukraine, and we aren't really able to help them by going there, so I wanted to do something to help. We invited a family to stay with us, but because we live in a village with no buses nobody wants to come to our house at the moment. So I want to give them stuff so that they can have a new home."

Iola: "I heard that people want money to bring prams there for the babies who have to leave because of the war, and some food, and some clothes. Especially the prams, and the food. And the clothes."

We plan to do the hike on 19th June - Father's Day, to remember all the Fathers left behind in Ukraine - with 26th June as a back up if too hot/wet/anyone ill!

Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of civilians across the country, causing millions to flee. Homes have been destroyed. Essential services have been hit. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have been lost. DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and across the border in the neighbouring countries. They are working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care.

£30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month

£50 could provide blankets for 4 families to keep them warm

£100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month
