On the way home from running London last year, we were inspired by the many people who ran for charity and helped raised critical funds for the work they are passionate about. We are passionate about running, sports, healthy living and, last but not least, dogs. Dogs play important roles in society and in each and every one of our lives and communities. Without them, our understanding of unconditional love would be so limited; without them, our lives will have unfilled voids that only furry paws, waggy tails and slobbery kisses could ever fill. Every dog is an important member of the family and society, so we decided that we really wanted to use our love of running to raise money for a charity that puts every ounce of effort into ensuring that every rescued dog finds the right home. It is a pursuit that is noble and super humbling to see.
Imagine devoting your life to being the voice and advocate for animals - to stand up for the rights that we bestow on ourselves, yet deprive other living feeling beings of the ‘privilege’. Many of such charities operate underfunded and yet the work they do often exceed monetary affordances. Dogs Trust work for the many furry canines from all walks of life - all walks. Most of them have little or no experience of a safe and warm home with a caring and loving family. It must be extremely tough for dogs to go through life day after day not knowing how the day will end.
So, we came up with the idea of running the race in a self-made two-person dog costume. The dog’s name is Ruaridh, and he will likely bear a startling resemblance to our gorgeous Rowan! Our Rowan is well loved and well cared for - an important member of his pack, our family - unlike Ruaridh who represents the majority of the dogs under the care of Dogs Trust - not having families to call ‘their pack’.
Dogs Trust is the UK’s leading dog welfare charity and do amazing work rehoming abandoned dogs as well as campaigning to promote responsible dog ownership. Many of the causes that they support and champion are very close to both of our hearts, and we are really excited to be able to use our love of running to help support their work!
We will be producing some videos showcasing the development of Ruaridh the dog over the next couple of months, so watch this space! In the meantime, if you were able to spare some money for our cause, we would be very grateful for your support! Don’t forget to look out for Ruairdh on the streets of London or on the TV coverage on 28th April!!
Thanks again for your support!
