Story
I’m doing the Fight for Sight Carrots NightWalk to raise funds for Research into Birdshot Uveitis and a Birdshot BioBank.
I first heard of Birdshot Uveitis because one of my patients, Rea Mattocks has this rare condition. I have seen first hand the impact that the steroids and immunosuppressant treatment has had. Rea finds chiropractic helps to alleviate some of the these side-effects. Rea is a local resident and has set up a charity to support people with this disease.
Birdshot Uveitis is a chronic, auto-immune, sight threatening form of posterior uveitis and currently there is no known cure. It can only be treated with toxic medication.
Research may help with understanding the disease, finding the cause and preventing future generations from getting. It is hoped that more targeted treatments can be found, reducing the need for toxic medication.
The Carrots Night Walk is taking place on September 21st, 2012 and I am hoping to walk 15 miles through London by night together with a team of people who have Birdshot and their friends and family.
