Story
On Nostalgia is a poetry collection featuring the work of 11 writers. Asked only to write about what nostalgia means to them, the results shared by each poet in this collection are as broad and cryptic as they are deeply intimate. Nostalgia in these poems manifests itself through melted candles on empty wine bottles and blurred photos from a friend’s camera roll. Nostalgia is a voice on the other end of the phone who no longer calls and the versions of ourselves only we remember. Each account is composed of fleeting images - entirely private and yet altogether recognisable. This collection was assembled during a time in which the absence of normalcy left us with little to do other than to reflect on moments previously considered unremarkable and to pick at the stitches of painful experiences that may otherwise have healed over. Through their writing each poet forces us to consider our own histories, our own losses, and the moments we would have perhaps been more thankful for had someone told us of their rarity. All proceeds from On Nostalgia are in aid of Glasgow's Golden Generation.
Glasgow's Golden Generation, formerly Glasgow Old People's Welfare Association, has been caring in autumn years since 1948. The charity works throughout Glasgow to prevent loneliness, social isolation and poverty in older adults. Services provided by Glasgow's Golden Generation include 3 day care centres, a citywide befriending project, welfare officers and over 100 weekly clubs. In 2018, our platinum anniversary, we aim to reach even more older adults across the city and continue our vital work in the communities of Glasgow.
