Story
In less than 48 hours I am going to be climbing all 5895m of Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation.
Meningitis Research Foundation funds research to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, as well as supporting the people affected by the virus. As knowledge and awareness of the virus is spread worldwide by the foundation, the survival rates of this virus which can hit anyone are improved as well as there being a reduction in the amount of life changing impacts such as disabilities which are a result of the virus. Meningitis Research Foundation estimates that there are around 3,400 cases of bacterial meningitis and septicaemia every year in the UK and Republic of Ireland. This means that every day 9 people will become ill with the diseases. With 1 in 10 people dying, a death will occur almost every day and a further 2 people will be left with life-altering after effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and multiple amputations.
So what have I decided to do to help? I am climbing to the very top of Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Taking 4 days to climb up and 2 days to come back down, I want to raise as much money as possible for the Meningitis Research Foundation and to make a difference to many people's lives! It doesn't matter how much money you sponsor me to climb to the summit because every penny will make a different. Do your bit for the foundation and help raise money to prevent and raise awareness of such a horrific virus, as you never know when someone close to you might be affected.
Thankyou,
Olivia xxx
