On New Years Day 2015 my Dad passed away after fighting very aggressive Cancer for almost a year. Before my Dads illness I had only witnessed cancer second hand, meaning outside of my immediate family. Still I knew Mums, Dads, Wives, Husbands, Brothers and Sisters of some of my closest friends that all eventually succumbed to this terrible illness. But it wasn't until I witnessed it rip apart my young and fit 62 year old Father I decided to act and try to make a difference (no matter how small) to the thousands and thousands of people that are affected by cancer each day.
The 2 charities I have picked to fund raise for are Macmillan and Cancer Research, they are both amazing charities that deal with different stages of the disease from developing new ways to diagnose and treat to supporting patients and families when many feel there is nothing more that can be done.
I will be pushing myself to my limits in order to prepare for all the events on time but hopefully it will be all worth it. To give you some background I have played rugby all my life and always thought that running around not chasing a ball seemed pretty pointless! So the longest I have ever run off a rugby pitch is approximately 7k, I cycle places if the sun is out and there is beer at the other end and pretty much the same goes for swimming.
So here is my list of Fundraising events.
1. Windsor 10k (Feb)
2. Reading Half Marathon (Apr)
3. Charity Rugby Match @ WRFC with a BBQ and Band. (Apr final date TBC)
4. Tough Mudder (May)
5. Wallingford 10k (May)
6. Three Peak Challenge (Jun/Jul)
7. London Triathlon (sprint) (Aug)
8. Gaelforce West, 67.5k Run/Bike/Kayak. (Aug)
Any donations would be greatfully received and the growing total will get me out of bed on rainy mornings for those all important training sessions, knowing that the money we raise is making a difference to people's lives. Alternatively come and join me for a event or two! I've already roped a couple of people in but the more the merrier.
Thank you very much in advance,
Olli. X
