Story
Hello friends and supporters,
As some of you already know I am a typ 1 diabetic since the end of 2012. Frankly speaking I was not paying too much attention to Diabetes before I was taken to the emergency room in Shanghai (Thanks to the United Family Healthcare Hospital – great service and yummie steak!!!). But things have changed quite a bit within the last couple of months. Diabetes is indeed a serious illness and millions of people in the world are suffering from the consequences (e.g. Blindness, amputations of legs) of their medical condition.
Diabetes means a much (!!!) more complicated life for the ones affected and for their surroundings. Calculating carbohydrates, buying Insulin, the daily usage of needles and explaining people that you are not taking heroin is indeed annoying… Anyway, Diabetes is maybe annoying, but it is no reason not to do what you want and what you love.
On 10th of August I am going to participate in my second Iron Man 70.3 Triathlon. This competition is the European Championship and I want to be among the best 10% of all starters. For me personally long distance sport is a good example, that anything is possible, even if you are a Diabetic.
And now I want try to cut a long story short: Please donate whatever amount you can deduct from you 6 digit yearly salary and support the “Type One Mission”. Type One Mission (TOM) is a charity that has been founded to primarily raise funds in order to support research projects that are looking into a cure for diabetes and the prevention, in particular, of Type One Diabetes.
Thanks to everyone and take care!
Oliver
