Danny's 6 Peak Challenge DONE!

A few months ago we decided to become more directly involved with an important cause that is very close to our heart. We pledged our support to Children 1st, a fantastic Scottish charity whose mission is aligned with ours: to ensure every child receives the support they need to grow and develop.

As part of our commitment, we launched a fundraiser and invited our supporters to donate. We’re very pleased to say that the fundraising has been a total success. Our CEO, Danny Vilela has completed the 6 Peak Challenge and we wanted to share this success with you.

Here’s the update on Danny’s achievement:

Ben Nevis ✅
Scafell Pike ✅
Yorkshire Three Peak ✅
Snowdon Wales ✅

Total ascent: 4,993 metres
Time taken: 21 hours
Distance: 75 kilometres
Total steps: 110,991

With this, the full 6 Peak challenge is completed! Hooray and 😄 congratulations to Danny 🎉

London Marathon 2021

Because Danny did so well and raised funds well above the target, he has ALSO signed up to another challenge. This time is the London Marathon.

Results:

Completed 26.2 miles in 3:47 hours ✅

Why?

When Covid-19 hit, we at Nursery Story were concerned about the impact of this on families with young children – particularly those who were struggling financially. 

Working in the nursery sector, we know how beneficial it is for children to grow up with books of their own and regular shared reading. Unfortunately, many children simply do not get this opportunity, especially if they are living in poverty. We know that the pandemic has escalated levels of poverty across the UK.

We want to change this and share the love of reading! So, we have partnered with Children 1st and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Every £25 donated to this appeal will fund a year’s worth of books for one child whose family has been hit hard by the pandemic. Their parents or carers will also receive practical and emotional support to make shared reading a part of the family’s routine. 

Children who are enrolled in this Programme will receive books right up to their fifth birthday, building up their own special Imagination Library.

As the Nursery Story team is mostly based in Scotland, this appeal will support children and families there through the work of Children 1st, Scotland’s national children’s charity. However, we are inviting all our partners across the UK to support Danny’s challenge, and help raise awareness of the importance of reading with young children.
