Syria conflict 10 years on: 90% of children need support as violence, economic crisis and COVID-19 pandemic pushed families to the brink.

A sad message I write every year hoping it would be the last time, but sadly the war in my country Syria is still raging and has demonstrated some of the worst inhumanity of the 21st Century.  Everyday children are becoming homeless, displaced or orphaned. Children are dying every day.

According to Save the Children, more children have been killed in the past month than in the whole of 2018 (which was the deadliest year since the war started in 2011)

In the last year, the price of the average food basket increased by over 230%. Thousands of children are in desperate need of humanitarian aid inside Syria, with only a few NGOs working on the ground it is very difficult, if not impossible, to provide shelter & food for displaced children.

Save the Children is one of the very few NGOs working in Syria providing cash for food for families who don’t know where their next meal will come from, running temporary schools to help children cope with the trauma of war & reuniting unaccompanied children with their families.

On Sunday 3rd October 2021, I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Save the Children in support of their work in
Syria.
