Story

As many of you know, I have struggled with Ataxia since my diagnosis in 2008, it is progressively taking my mobility, speech and independence, preventing me from working since 2021. Life is a challenge but I do my best to get out when possible, enabled by my Tri-Ride wheelchair and support from my wonderful family.

Ataxia is a rare, progressive neurological illness that attacks the sheath around the nerves so communication with muscles is lost. I have spinocerebellar Ataxia SCA 2 - there are many different types and all are designated orphan (rare) conditions, there is currently no treatment or cure.

I'm joining the Parallel Windsor event, accompanied by Kristin, my wife, either taking a few steps of the 100m distance or using my Tri-Ride wheelchair for the 5km course. My aim is to raise awareness of Ataxia and its effects as well as to raise funds - as an orphan condition research funding is very limited.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
