Ar ran ein teulu, mae gyda thristwch dyfnaf i'ch hysbysu am farwolaeth ein tad annwyl a gwr ymroddedig, Noel Williams 16/12/1927 - 15/01/2022
Bu farw Noel Owen Williams, actor a chyflwynydd Cymraeg, yn 94 oed.
Yn wreiddiol o Lanbedrog, dechreuodd ei yrfa fel athro yng Nghaerdydd wrth weithio’n rhan amser yn darlledu’r newyddion ar gyfer BBC Cymru a Radio Cymru yn ystod y 60au. Cyn hynny yr oedd wedi darlledu ar yr orsaf radio Cymraeg answyddogol, Radio Ceiliog.
Ymddeolodd fel athro i ddilyn gyrfa ym myd actio. Ymddangosodd mewn nifer o ddramâu S4C megis Cysgodion Gdansk (1987), Barbarossa (1989), Lleifior (1993) ac Oed Yr Addewid (2001)
Ymhlith rhai o’i brif rannau eraill bu’n actio yn nramâu teledu Saesneg fel The Snow Spider (1988) a A Christmas Reunion (1994) wedi ei selio ar lyfr T Llew Jones ‘Tân ar y Comin’ ac yn cyd-serennu gyda James Coburn a Edward Woodward.
Un o uchafbwyntiau ei yrfa oedd ei ran yn y ffilm Hedd Wyn (1992), yr unig ffilm Gymraeg i gael ei henwebu ar gyfer Oscar. Ef oedd yn chwarae rhan Cadeirydd y Tribiwnlys mewn golygfa emosiynol pan wrthodwyd y bardd ifanc rhag cael ei esgusodi o wasanaeth milwrol.
Roedd Noel yn ymgyrchwr brwd dros yr iaith a bu hefyd yn ymgeisydd Plaid Cymru Ddwyrain Y Rhondda yn Etholiad Cyffredinol 1959.
Yn Gymro balch ac yn gymeriad unigryw, mae’n cael ei oroesi gan ei wraig o 61 mlynedd, Lena a’i tri phlentyn, Huw, Rhys a Ffion.

Noel Owen Williams Welsh speaking actor and presenter has passed away aged 94.
Originally from Llanbedrog, North Wales, he began his career as a teacher in Cardiff whilst undertaking part time news reading roles for BBC Cymru and Radio Cymru in the 1960’s. Previously he broadcasted on "Radio Ceiliog" a Welsh language pirate radio station.
He retired from teaching to pursue his acting career and notable roles for S4C included Cysgodion Gdansk (1987), Barbarossa (1989), Lleifior (1993) and Oed Yr Addewid (2001). TV drama roles included The Snow Spider(1988), the Old Devils (1992) and A Christmas Reunion (1994) based on T Llew Jones novel ‘Tan ar y Comin’ appearing alongside James Coburn and Edward Woodward.
One of his undoubted highlights was to have been involved in ‘Hedd Wyn’ (1992) the only Welsh language film nominated for a Hollywood Oscar.as Chairman of the Tribunal in a poignant and emotional scene where young poet’s exemption from military service was rejected.
A passionate campaigner for the Welsh language, he also stood as a Plaid Cymru candidate in the 1959 General Election for Rhonnda East.
A truly unique character and proud Welshman, he is survived by his wife of 61 years Lena and his three children Huw, Rhys and Ffion.
