Vicky recently lost her fight to Hereditary Diffuse Gastric Cancer (HDGC). She was an amazing wife, wonderful mother, close sister and great friend to us running on her behalf.

HDGC is an inherited cancer syndrome that leads to an increased risk of developing diffuse gastric cancer and lobular breast cancer at a young age. There is a 50% chance of inheriting the same CDH1 pathogenic variant (genetic 'spelling mistake') that's associated with HDGC. The diffuse type of gastric cancer associated with HDGC is challenging to diagnose, most cases of diffuse gastric cancer are diagnosed at late stages (III or IV). The research on the genetics, diagnosis, and treatment of HDGC is ongoing, but largely underfunded. 

On the 15th March 2020, eight of us will be running the Bath Half Marathon in memory of Vicky to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). Through a special arrangement with CRUK, donations to this page will be used to support research into stomach cancer. Vicky smiled when she knew we were running this for her and that it would help other people to live longer and more enhanced lives with this type of cancer. We are certainly a mixed bag of runners and definitely stepping out our comfort zone (well, maybe not Sam!).
