Story
We are a coalition of British Jews from across the community who are standing up and saying unequivocally: NO TO ANNEXATION, NO TO OCCUPATION and YES TO PEACE. We comprise youth movement leaders, student rabbis, Jewish professionals and active members of an array of communal bodies. While our community’s leadership refuses to speak out and reflect the voice of the majority, we are taking action.
From July 1st, the new Israeli government plans to start the process of unilaterally annexing parts of the West Bank. Such a move would be a disaster for Palestinians and Israelis alike, giving rise to grave human rights violations and dooming prospects of peace. Amidst a major health and economic crisis, and with more Israelis opposed to such a move than in favour, the Trump-Netanyahu annexation plan must be resisted.
The struggle against annexation in Israel is being led by people’s movements on the ground. This joint fundraiser will support the urgent work of three of these movements: Standing Together, Zazim and Peace Now.
Standing Together is a grassroots Jewish-Arab movement leading campaigns for peace, equality and social justice in order to build power and transform Israeli society. It is currently at the forefront of the protests against annexation, mobilising Arabs and Jews to make their voices heard and show that the majority are against this disastrous plan.
Zazim is the largest campaigning community in Israel, utilising online tools to organise citizens in support of democracy and equality. In the weeks before annexation is planned to take place, Zazim is launching a massive media campaign and organising a solidarity tour with Palestinian farmers whose lands are due to be annexed.
Peace Now is the longest-standing peace movement in Israel, working to keep Israeli-Palestinian peace at the top of the political agenda and public discourse. It has been disseminating information online and in the streets about the dangers of annexation, and is planning more demonstrations and the galvanisation of parliamentary opposition.
Donations made through this fundraiser will be channelled via the New Israel Fund and distributed to the three Israeli not-for-profit associations mentioned above.
