I am doing a charity walk up mount Snowdon on the 31 of March to raise money and awareness for battens disease. I will be taking the Watkins path, 7 hours walking up and down. I will be covering 10 miles. The Watkins path is the hardest route ascending 3,300ft of the 3,560 ft.

Battens disease is cruel, devastating and fatal illnesses that slowly takes every skill, sight, walk, speech, and swallow until uncountable seizures finally make the brain and body take no more.

My friend Beverly’s daughter Amelia Rose was clinically diagnosed with this disease in November 2010. At the age of four Amelia started having seizures then In July 2010 Amelia was rushed into hospital after having an ongoing seizure and loss of swallow. Amelia had a feeding tube fitted but she continued to have uncontrollable seizures which put Amelia in intensive care, then a coma for 8 weeks. At this point doctors were asking Bev to think about terminating her life.

Amelia was born healthy, only 18 months ago Amelia was running around, playing, talking, like any other child. Now Amelia is aged 6, this cruel horrible disease has taken almost everything from her, her mobility, her vision, her ability to eat or drink and her voice, however her personality and the sparkle in her eyes remain strong. Amelia is totally dependent on adult care for everything now.

Please sponsor me. This is a terrible disease; they need to find a cure. It may not happen in little Amelia’s lifetime but in the future to help other innocent children diagnosed each year.
