Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I am running in the Virgin London Marathon to raise money for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, Surrey. In 2008 we lost my Mum and also my Uncle to Cancer within the space of 6 weeks. My Mum was always a great admirer of P.T.H, the work they do & the care they provide to their patients. My Uncle passed away there in March 2008 and my Mum sadly passed away 6 weeks after. I failed in my attemp to get a place into the Marathon in 2009, but have been lucky enough to get a charity place with Phyllis Tuckwell for 2010 which is why I really want to give something back to this excellent cause.
As you will see in the brief below, and something that really amazes me is that it costs £10,000 per day to run the hospice and offer this amazing service - however the NHS only covers less than 16% of their costs (which is under half the national average for hospices) serving a population of 600,000 across West Surrey & Northeast Hants.
Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice offers specialist 'Palliative' care to adults facing the end of their lives and for the families who love & care for them, when 'Curative' care is no longer an option.
