Remembering Nigel Appleyard (5th December 1965-26th September 2020) a dearly loved husband, father, son and friend and a truly inspirational teacher and trainer of teachers. The world is a poorer place without him, but our lives are richer for having known and loved him.
Nige had lived with neuro-endocrine cancer since first diagnosis in February 2014, managing his condition with great stoicism and assistance from the NET team at the Royal Free. His positivity and determination to live a normal life meant that he was still able to work, travel and enjoy time with friends and family for many of the six years that he had this disease. However, sadly his health deteriorated considerably over the summer of 2020, and his passing on 26th September has left us devastated.
We will remember him as a true gentleman - generous, kind, loving, witty and loyal who was devoted to his family and a great friend to many. He would light up any gathering with his terrific sense of humour and always put others before himself. He was utterly dedicated to the profession that he loved, and he was an excellent role model - always prepared to stand up for his principles and act with integrity.
His passing leaves a void in our lives that cannot be filled, but he would want us to live life to the full and to remember him in a positive way. We would like to raise money for the wonderful NET team at the Royal Free Hospital who cared for him so well. The money will be used to fund training and research into this complex cancer so that more people are able to survive it.
We are enormously grateful for any donations you would like to give in memory of Nigel.
