Story
My boss asked if I wanted to take part in the Pegasystems Annual Triathlon and I said sarcastically, "Yeah, I'd love to". Which clearly means I'd rather chew my own feet off but he took as "yeah, I'd love to". So it looks like I'm doing a Triathlon.
Now, I can run. I forced myself to start running at the beginning of the year and I can comfortably run for about an hour and a half. Unfortunately, as is the nature of a triathlon, to get to the nice little 5k meander around Eton Dorney that constitues the running discipline of this race, I have to SWIM IN A FREAKING LAKE and try not to faceplant over the handle bars on a 15k bike ride.
This isn't actually a charity event, but a "fun" challenge. However since it's pretty much my idea of Hell I thought I might as well raise some money at the same time. I'll be running, swimming and cycling (and possibly crying the whole way through) for Age UK.
The elderly are a demographic that are often forgotten about when it comes to support and the work that the Age UK does helps to promote the respect that they deserve. Age UK strive to improve later life through information and advice, services, campaigns, products and research. I find it really heartbreaking that those in the later stages of life are sometimes treated in a second rate way, and if I can raise a little bit to help them by dragging myself around a triathlon then it's worth it.
Any money would be greatly appreciated, even if you're only doing it because you like the idea of me crying. Thanks guys. X
