Story

This started life as Nicola's secret fundraising page set up by David... but the cat is out of the bag and Nicola knows that she will be running the London Marathon on 21st April 2024 and has altered her training plan accordingly (once she had recovered from the surprise)!!

We are fundraising for Age UK Oldham, a fantastic local charity supporting people aged 50+ to live more independent, fulfilling lives. Nicola has worked for Age UK Oldham since November 2001 and it is such a worthy cause.

This started out with Nicola attempting to run 2 marathons and 2 half marathons in August 2023:

  1. 5th August 2023 - The 'Dovedale Dipper' Marathon in the Peak District
  2. 13th August 2023 - The Isle of Man Marathon
  3. 19th August 2023 - The '6 Lakes Half-Marathon' in Sweden
  4. 26th August 2023 - Fleetwood Half Marathon

She then took on the 47-Mile (75km) Ultra Marathon around Lake Windermere ('The Lap') on the 9th September...!

She didn’t know I’d signed her up for the London Marathon!  She applies every year, but had never got a place.   Luckily, after 47 miles around Windermere she was really excited at the prospect of running such an iconic race.

We had reached our initial target by the time she had completed 'the Lap' but we would still like to raise more.

The donations and messages of support and encouragement have been amazing so thank you to each and every one of you for helping us to support such a great cause.

More recent training challenges completed have been:

- South East Lancs Cross Country League race at Heaton Park on 7th October

- Rochdale 10k on 8th October

- Manchester Half Marathon on 15th October.

- Run in the Dark Salford 10k on 15th November

- Santa Dash in Uppermill on 2nd December

- Seville half-marathon on 28th January

- Saddleworth 10 res's on 2nd March

- Bramham Park Trail Half Marathon on 7th April

The only remaining challenge is the iconic London Marathon itself!

Thank you for your support!
