Story
I have once again decided to run the Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10k which takes place on Sunday 13th May 2012 to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Everyone who knows me well will know how mad I am about supporting Macmillan, who are such a worthy charity and very close to my heart following the passing of my nana, Bridget Mallon Graham in 1998.
Bridget or Bridie, as she was known, was the most wonderful woman and was, to me and many others, the centre of our little world. My gorgeous Nana Bridie was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a form of asbestosis and sadly passed away following a battle with the disease. My Nana battled bravely and was taken from us long before she should have been. Everyone who knew my Nana, whether a family member, a friend or through the Brechin or the Bingo in Govan, will agree she was a special little lady with a big heart.
Macmillan’s support during my Nana’s condition was invaluable to my family and for that reason, is and will continue to be, my charity of choice for fundraising.
I would also like to mention the other wonderful people I have or have had in my life who have been affected by cancer in some form - My Mum, Uncle Michael, Great Nana Bridget and Aunt Trisha - I'm doing this for them too.
I previously ran this 10k event on 13/05/07 placing 1893 with a time of 00:55:52 and also on 09/05/10 placing 623rd with a time of 00:51:02, both of which I am very proud of. I am hoping to beat that time this year and raise lots of money from my kind supporters who have helped me achieve so much to date.
Thank you once again for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Every little helps, so whether you donate 1p or £1, it is much appreciated by Macmillan and I. Your donation and support really means a lot and will help push me round that 10k course!
Please remember to tell your family and friends about the wonderful work that Macmillan does for those living with cancer and if they feel it’s worthwhile, direct them to this page – http://www.justgiving.com/NicolaHanley2012
There are two million people living with cancer in the UK, let's help Macmillan reach out to those people and their families.
* £20 helps Macmillan relieve people's fears – Macmillan’s nurses and trained advisers on their helplines are there to answer questions.
* £40 provides support – Macmillan’s counsellors and psychologists support anyone living with cancer, whether they're coping with depression or anxiety or simply need someone to talk to.
* £100 helps Macmillan reach more people – Help Macmillan be there for the two million people who are living with cancer in the today.
Much Love,
Nicola Hanley x
Running in memory of the greatest wee woman in the world – Bridget Mallon Graham.
