My name is Nikki, I have 4 young children all aged under 10. This is my story of where it began
on June 23rd 2013 it was a lovely sunday afternoon, which turned into my worst nightmare, it is a day I will never forget no matter how hard I try.
Around 3pm my youngest daughter Faith (she was 18 months old at the time) was run over and suffered a grade 4 liver laceration, there was a lot of internal bleeding due to this and she was placed under sedation and put on a life support machine, we were lucky that there were no broken bones. she received blood transfusions, scans, x rays and lots of medication within just a few short hours we found ourselves being rushed to Sheffield children's hospital. It is any parents worse nightmare and no matter what you also consider the worse case scenario because of the uncertainty of what will happen, what keeps you strong and keeps you going is knowing that your child is a fighter and will pull through anything.
if it hadn't been for all the doctors and nurses that provided the love, care, support and attention she needed and our family needed I don't know what would have happened, I don't want to think of what could of happened.
Exactly 3 years on and Faith is a healthy happy, 4 year old enjoying nursery, and making friends, the doctors at Sheffield provided the care and had the equipment my daughter needed, and that a lot of other children need and we have to remember a great song quote "the children are our future" with out this team to look after our children when they need specialist care where would we be.
