Story
Oliver who is now 7 was born with a Bi-lateral Cleft Lip and Palate. He has had three operations and has further surgeries ahead.
Oliver is an incredible boy who is always smiling. He is currently undergoing extensive orthodontic work so he can have a bone graft. He will have some bone taken from his hip that will go into his jaw, he will have several teeth removed and correction of the jaw alignment.
Oliver has missed a lot of school because of his appointments and has spent hours and hours in hospitals but he is currently undertaking his SATS and is makingme very proud. Oliver has remained positive and brave even thou he has a lifetime of treatment ahead and is having a particularly tough year this year.
I have recently joined the Cleft Lip and Palate Association Committee (South Wales Branch). I have the opportunity to help and support other families by organising fundraising events as well as bringing families together. CLAPA have helped our family since birth. We are undertaking a walk during Cleft Lip and Palate awareness week.
We cannot thank CLAPA and the Cleft team in Swansea -Morriston Hospital enough x I would like to thank all our friends and family for the support you have given us especially listening to me xxx Thankyou also to Rhydri School for supporting him so much,
The week is a national campaign to fight the myths and misunderstandings around how cleft Lip and Palate affects people and their families in the United Kingdom from diagnosis to adulthood. This year 1,200 babies will be born with a cleft Lip and /or Palate in the U.K.
Thankyou very very much for your help and support xxxxxxxx Lots and lots of love the Schillings xxxxxx😘
