Some of you may know that my son Ellis was born 5 weeks early after my waters broke at 30 weeks. We spent the first 10 days of his life in the SCBU, going from the high dependency room, to finally being able to go home as a family of 3. 

Everyone's SCBU journey is different, some much longer than ours but those memories always stay with you!

It is thanks to the care and support of the SCBU that Ellis received in his early days that I now have a thriving Toddler. 

Some of that care and technology would not be there without the support of charities like The Little Buds Fund.

Your support provides the very best care for babies born at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. Through your generosity they can support staff to deliver the best possible care to expectant mums, and their new babies, meaning most of the babies can be treated close to home.

Improved technology, medical advances and improved nursing expertise, enables staff on Walnut Ward, The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), to care for babies born with wide-ranging problems.  This can include those born prematurely, unwell or with breathing difficulties.  Some may just need an initial helping hand by tube feeding or light therapy for jaundice. Whatever is needed the nurses and consultants work around the clock to support the goal of Babies going home. 

With this in mind its a charity to close to my heart and I wanted to do something. I have decided to run the Asics London 10k. Although it's not the marathon, this could still be a challenge (i'm 37 this month...nooo)!!
