Hello There
Firstly Id like to thank you all for visiting my just giving page for running both the Brighton and London marathon 2016. I'm so pleased I have got in and am running it for Cystic Fibrosis a charity very close to my heart.
Thanks to all of you who have sponsored me, come to my charity events and generally supported me over the last few years of me fund raising for CF and running marathons.
Cystic Fibrosis is a disease many of you have probably hard of but may not know much about so I will tell you a few facts.
CF is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system.
There are almost 10,000 people in the UK living with CF.
More than 2.5 million people in the UK carry the faulty gene- around 1 in 25 of the population, many without even knowing.
There is currently no cure for CF and those living with the disease have to
adhere to a daily regime of physiotherapy and nebulisers to help clear mucus
from the lungs, antibiotics and other medication to fight inflamation and
infection and the lungs and enzyme tablets with every meal to help with digesting
food.
Lung transplantation is a form of treatment for some people with cystic
fibrosis who are severely ill with the disease.
Each week five babies are born with CF and two people die.
More than half of the CF population in the UK with not see past their 40th Birthday.
Now that's enough of the heavy stuff, please dig deep and sponsor me to run for this amazing cause.
Lots of Love
Nicky ️xx
