I always said I would never run a marathon. I was challenged last summer to sign up to run Brighton for Teenage Cancer Trust. Sitting in a hospital room sponsored by TCT at the time, I simply couldn't think of a good enough reason not to do it and to support a charity that had a huge impact on the life of my teenage niece Helena and our family. Helena was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma at the age of 14. She fought a hard battle for 2 years, was a pillar of strength throughout, but we sadly lost her in October 2015 aged just 16. Amongst many things, TCT provided her a home at UCLH in their specialist young people's cancer ward for the best part of two years. Training is tough, but not nearly as tough as the battle she and hundreds of other children and teenagers face when they are diagnosed with cancer. This is what keeps me going when I think I can't do it. When I don't feel like going for a run and when I think it's too tough, I remind myself that my pain and discomfort is temporary, but the work that TCT does is long lasting and life changing.  So please donate whatever you can to support the amazing work that TCT does for young people with cancer and their families.
