What better way to enter into the spirit of the London Olympic year than to run the London marathon? Well that was my initial thoughts anyway..... Also I'm 49 in 2012 so I thought I'd mark the end of my 40s with a bang - or perhaps more of a groan of agony...

Now for reality - I've got a lot of hard, cold training ahead of me.The longest I've ever run before is a half marathon so its a big hill to climb. But with your help and the knowledge that i am raising money for  good cause I'm confident I can make it..  

I'm very pleased to be raising money for St Johns Ambulance who have very kindly allowed me to join their marathon team for the race. (I'm hoping that I won't cost them more on the day in emergency medical care, than I actually raise).

On the more serious side I think St Johns Ambulance is a great cause. They provide an essential and excellent free service at a host of sporting and non sporting events that we all benefit from. I feel that supporting them is a  great way of putting charity money back directly into the community.
