Story
On the 2nd of October, I will be running the London Marathon in memory of my Dad, who was an avid runner and completed the London Marathon in 2001 (pictured above). He raised money for Macmillan after he lost his mother to cancer. I will be following in his footsteps on the 26 mile journey, raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity.
Dad lost his fight to an aggressive and debilitating brain tumour (Glioblastoma) on the 5th of November 2021. He underwent brain surgery twice in order to slow down the cancer progression but it hardly helped - he lived for 15 months from diagnosis. Despite being given a terminal diagnosis a few months into retirement, he maintained a positive mindset throughout his illness. This is a true testament to his character and his gratitude towards life - he was an inspiration to those that knew him. His spark, intellect and mischievous personality will be deeply missed.
As a neuroscientist, Dad spent much of his life dedicated to research and science. Unfortunately, in this instance, science could provide no cure - GBMs and other types of brain tumours remain terminal. Cases are increasing year after year and the field of research is underfunded. The funds I hope to raise will help find a cure sooner and assist those diagnosed both physically and mentally. I am confident that your contribution will accelerate a positive change:

This isn't going to be easy and I am sure the thought of me struggling at mile 20 is enough entertainment to throw a few pounds in. Thank you!
